It’s the post-modern wine drinker’s existential conundrum: What should I then drink?

Your wine aisle jitters just got served.

A small wine shop carries about 200 labels, and a normal supermarket (assuming you don’t live in a Puritan state like Pennsylvania) often carries as many as 1000. So I’m sure you’ve had your share of  ”Well, Snow Peak Peach sounds pretty good…” moments in the wine aisle only to find that either: a, no one liked it. Or b, it just didn’t go with the juicy flank stank with chimichurri you had waiting at home.

That’s where Hello Vino, the most powerful wine pairing app on the Android market, comes in. They make about 500,000 monthly recommendations with the iPhone version already, and now that they’ve decided to take their skills to Google and join the Android Market, they’re bound to top a million.

A Digitized, Miniaturized, Ameliorized Sommelier

Hello Vino is what the love child of an iPod and Kevin Zraly would be like. Its menu is full of simple, click-through questions that jump off of starting points like what you are eating, what kind of wine you like, or what sport you’re watching. If you already have a wine in hand, the app will give you a food suggestion based on that.

Answer the questions, usually no more than 2 or three, and you will get a suggested varietal with 3 recommended wines. If Pinot Grigio is the suggestion and you happen to hate it, for instance, Hello Vino also offers two alternative varietals as well.

The Android release hit the market yesterday, and the 2.0 release—which will include Twitter and Facebook integration, saving and rating wines, and more —is around the corner. Give it a spin on the Hello Vino website and see what you think, or head over to the Android Market and download Hello Vino now.
