I’m alway on the lookout for a cool interactive way to explore the vast un-explorable wine universe. The interwebz helps out a lot. What did people do without it? Knit shit, I guess.
Espavino.com is here to throw a spanner in the works of all our knitting plans. Cara from Decant Chicago first turned me on to this site, and I gotta say, it’s pretty damn helpful for getting a snapshot of whatever Spanish D.O. or D.O.Ca you’re hankering to know better. It’s like Jew Date, for Spanish wine regions (not really.)
I like the interactive map the most, which gives you the all-important geographic context. I could wish for some detail, like mountain ranges, rivers and such. But beggars can’t be choosers, so I’m told. The information on each region is limited to basically varietals and production, so you’ll still need your standard references (Oxford Companion to Wine, World Wine Atlas, etc.,) but it gives you somewhere to springboard your reseach if you’re looking into those obscure places like Ribeira Sacra.
Mencía, ftw!
